Executor

The process of administering an estate in BC is usually “cut and dried”: There is often no real need for family involvement. We manage hundreds of estates, and can deal efficiently and quickly with the task of obtaining probate, clearing out and selling your residence, selling, gifting and disposing of possessions, and management of taxes. Our policy is to try to get money to your beneficiaries as quickly as possible. And if problems arise we have years of experience in managing all sorts of conflicts. Having a professional executor can also reduce family frictions and suspicions.

  • Work with your bank to manage your investments
  • Pay your bills

Having A Lawyer As Power Of

Attorney Avoids Problems

Our legal expertise ensures compliance with laws, experience handling financial matters and connections to professionally vetted service providers. Since we remain impartial there are no conflicts of interest, and we add an extra layer of protection against abuse or exploitation, adhering to professional standards.

Sibling

Rivalry

Designating one child as power of attorney can breed resentment among siblings and relatives, leading to disputes over the chosen agent's decisions, arguments about the loved one's care, or even harassment to gain control of affairs. Opting for an attorney as the agent, who is external to the family, helps maintain positive relationships among siblings, spouses, and grandchildren.

Mangement

Concerns

Agents invest significant time and effort in managing your care and finances, and even those acting in good faith may lack the necessary accounting skills for efficient and cost-effective management. Those with malicious intent may exploit their position, risking misuse of your savings or attempts to influence changes in your will. Our neutral third-party attorneys possess the professional expertise and insider knowledge required to adeptly navigate these responsibilities.

Emotional

Ties

Navigating end-of-life decisions for a loved one is emotionally charged, and family members may struggle to set aside their feelings. Even with clearly stated wishes, there's a risk that a relative may be unwilling to follow them due to personal reasons. For instance, an agent might override a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order because they aren't prepared to say goodbye. We, however, remove emotions from the decision-making process, ensuring strict adherence to your wishes.

Inheritance

Conflicts

Heirs are financially motivated to minimize a loved one's care costs, which can influence their judgment since these expenses directly reduce their inheritance. For instance, if a mother prefers in-home care over a nursing home, the family might opt for a facility to save money. Alternatively, a child may move into her home, complicating eviction if the house is bequeathed to another. As we don't stand to inherit anything, we prioritize your end-of-life care instructions irrespective of their impact on your beneficiaries.

Because You Care

And They Do Too

Nobody wants to be a burdon or cause undue costs in time or money to those they love. By having us act as your power of attorney your family gets to focus on what they want, more quality time with you. Delta Law Office can be your reliable source of support and expertise to help you and your family deal with the transitions that can come with aging.
